My name is Zac Cannon, and I proudly serve as the Director of Bands for the Long Beach School District. In this role, I oversee the entire band program, working closely with students from beginner through high school levels. I teach beginner percussion at Harper McCaughan Elementary School, assist with the middle school bands at Long Beach Middle School, and direct both the Long Beach High School Marching Band and the Symphonic Band.

I am a proud graduate of Pearl High School (Class of 2007). I earned my Associate of Arts in Music Education from Jones County Junior College (2010), my Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi (2013), and my Master’s in Music Education from William Carey University (2019). I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Music Education from Liberty University.

In addition to my work in Long Beach, I have been actively involved with the Mississippi Lions All-State Band since 2014. Over the years, I have served in various instructional roles including percussion technician, assistant percussion instructor, head percussion instructor, music arranger/composer, and visual technician. I have also worked with both woodwind and brass sections, contributing to the band’s musical and visual excellence across multiple seasons. I am honored to have been selected as the Assistant Concert Director for the 2026 Mississippi Lions All-State Band, where I will travel with the band to Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Honolulu, Hawaii.

My teaching career began at Warren Central High School in Vicksburg, MS, where I served as assistant band director, percussion director, and 6th-grade beginner band director from 2013–2015. In 2015, I joined the Long Beach band program as assistant band director, percussion director, and concert band director—a position I held for six years before becoming Director of Bands in fall 2021.
